Subtle-ish Sexism

For the past few days, I've become aware of the subtle (and not so subtle) things we say which help perpetuate sexism; I heard someone call Trump a pussy, there are FB posts calling to stop "slut shaming" Melania, and a friend said Hillary has balls. And as I was STILL reeling from the election results four days later, I started crying again and told myself to "man up" and "grow a pair". That's right, I thought that. 

As I begin to see through this heavy feeling of utter devastation I wonder what my part will be in helping to heal the immense divide in our country that has suddenly been shoved into focus. I don’t know yet but what I can do for now is be mindful of the way I think and speak about myself and others and continue to have conversations about it all.
